what is it close to?

It's supposed to say Bagdad.

Welcome to PBS.

I hunted that area for the first time a year ago. Camped and chased rabbits with a group of good folks. You saw more deer than we did so you already have a lot going for you. The rest is woodsman ship skills,
Wear the thinnest soled footwear you can handle
keep the wind in your face
only stalk bedded single bucks
but you probably knew these things.

Did you see any white tails?

I hunted around Bagdad a couple of years ago for Javelina. Didn't see any or deer either. I would suggest further east in the Prescott National Forest, but I would not enter from the Bagdad side ( road is rough and not recommended especially with a trailer ). Take the 2nd roundabout south of Chino Valley and head toward the Forest. Quite a few deer there and Javelina near the Yolo Ranch airfield, as well as further west toward Bagdad. The key is quality optics and time spent behind them and wait until they bed down before attempting a stalk. Be sure to have wind powder with you or cattails which I've found to work even better.
The motorhome crowd seem to really like the Bagdad area as I've seen caravans of them there. They all have $200,000 motor homes, towing a $50,000 vehicle behind and spend 6 months in the desert looking for a free place to park.

And as Rick said, you need sensitive stalking shoes. Mine are moccasins with a very thin neoprene sole, or you can get them with a plain leather sole if you are into the earthing thing. Made by the Indians in Canada and sold by Ryan Gill for around $100 or so.

Thank you for the input. My brother Jason Christianson and I dropped down into Bagdad that way this January.

Great info Ron.  I wear my oldest sneakers. Worn out from running. The sole thins out and they work for me.
