Sure would like to join up on this hunt. I'll certainly need more information before a final decision is made. This will mostly depend on if I draw an Arizona tag or not.
Where and when are my first questions/

Howdy Rick!  Craig does all his internet stuff on his cell phone so it may take him a day or two to respond.

Any way the hunt is set for 8/29 - 9/12.  The location is the Blacks Fork which is outside of Mountain View WY. almost due east of Salt Lake.  License & tags are over the counter for elk in this unit and all elk are legal (Bull, cow or calf).

License cost:
365 Day License = $65.
365 Day Combo License (Hunt & Fish) = $85.
Elk Tag = $393.

I've been to this hunt 4 times and seen elk on every trip so far.  I have had close calls on every hunt but have not connected at the Blacks Fork.  I usually see a dozen or more elk & mule deer on each trip as well as some close encounters with big bull moose.  You can put in to draw a buck mule deer tag for this unit which I drew last year and have put in again.  The dead line to put in for the draw is March 5th but they may end up with left over tags after the draw which is on May 29th.

The fishing is excellent with some pretty nice size brook trout.  We catch them on fly rods and spinning rods.  We will keep a few for cooking and they are delicious.  I usually spend a day or two just fishing.  We also attend the Mountain Man Rendezvous @ Fort Bridger WY over the labor day weekend to break up the hunt. http://www.fortbridgerrendezvous.net/

If you are going to the banquet, catch up with me and and I can give you the in depth version. ðŸ˜

Hope to see you there, its a great hunt.

What an incredible opportunity.    I am interested in this as well.     To clarify, this is a Utah elk hunt?   Not in Wyoming correct?

I would like to be on the list for this if there’s a opening.

I just wanted to add a couple things to what Rob said.
Yes, we will be hunting in Utah, but the only way in is through Mountain View Wyoming, I think you can purchase your Utah hunting license there, but I got mine on line the year I went before.
Perhaps Craig or Rob can verify that.
I think I will get mine on line again just to be safe.

I have bought my license on line each year I have gone, but you can buy your license at that grocery store in Mountain View. I just buy on line as after a 30 hour drive out there I may be rolling through town at odd hours.  I don't wanna have to wait around for them to open up to buy a license.
The fishing in this area is great.  I have blown off an afternoon or two of elk hunting to chase the trout before.

Crazy place for weather though.  I have hunted when it was almost 80 degrees there, and one year I woke up on August 23rd and everything was covered with 6" of snow.

I can't wait,  but first, I'me sure I'll see most of this group in Springfield. The anticipation is almost as thrilling as I know the hunt will be.
Preparing for a hunt like this is awesome.

How many points to almost guarantee drawing a buck tag in this unit?

I hope to get back to this hunt some day. Always a great group. Thanks Craig.

Ron I drew a tag last year with zero points.  Not sure if I was just lucky or what.  I know it's not a heavy hunted mule deer unit.  From what i've seen the deer there are of average class and I have not seen any really big bucks.

I been following this hunt On previous years anxious to be a part of it this year,  looks like a Beautiful place and the combined fishing sounds epic! being I been a avid fly fisher and Tier in the past till real life got a hold of me. What are good fly patterns to use? I could possibly tie some up to share for the guys that are nice to me🤓  still throwing traveling thoughts around on how I want to get there.

Morning Alvin, most of the guys have been using spinner baits like mepps.  So anything like clowser minnows should work.  Adams Parachutes & Blue Wing Olives worked.  Basically any dry fly will catch them.

Hey Alvin; Ilove fly fishing, problem is, I stink at it, so I will appreciate any help I can get.

Same with me. Got the fly rod but poor wrist action. Sounds like a lesson is in order.
